We are a local charity based in Quinton, an estate of Birmingham. We have a passion for working with young people and desire to see them fulfil their potential.

Quinton YFC exists to enrich, empower & equip young people in partnership with the local community.

Working within the structures of the community we aim to support:

  • Young people – We believe that for young people to achieve their potential, two things are needed; positive self worth and high aspirations. We work with young people in a mentoring capacity within secondary schools in order to support their development in this way. We also provide various lunch clubs for the local secondary and Primary Schools. Outside of school hours, we run a drop-in club called 'Drop-zone' in a local secondary school where young people can come 3.15-5pm each Monday and Thursday to socialise with friends and talk with our team of trained volunteers.

  • Local Schools – We support our local secondary school through mentoring. We also support Four Dwellings Primary Academy, Worlds End Junior School, Woodhouse Primary School and Perryfields Primary School by running transition clubs for year six pupils to prepare them for the change up to high school.

  • Residents – In 2007 as part of a community wide consultation, one of the biggest concerns that resident s shared was that they were afraid to go out at night due to the high number of young people hanging around on the streets. By providing after school provision from 3.15-5pm twice a week, we aim to provide a safe space for young people so they are not hanging out on the streets so residents feel safe. Residents also shared that they wanted youth support/counselling for young people which we provide in and out of school.

  • Churches – There are a number of churches across Quinton with lots of work going on. However, between them all, there is no paid, full time employee dedicated to running youth provision. Most churches (those that have youth provision) have wonderful teams of volunteers dedicated to the work. QYFC’s role is to support those churches whether it is hands on support, consultation, or training. We also deliver 'Unite' events for the young people across the Churches to come together to socialise, community action and youth services. Both of our church partnership workers - Josh & Phil - work with a specific church for part of their working hours.

  • Partners – working in partnership is incredibly important to us (see more on what we do page). We aim to support the work that others are doing and collectively identify areas of need for different partners to address.

We are a Christian charity operating out of our values of love, empowerment, dignity and restoration. However, young people can engage in our activities no matter their faith, gender, sexuality or family background. Their attendance at our provision is not dependant on them becoming Christians. Although we seek to share God’s love with the young people, in many settings this is not shared explicitly due to the inappropriateness and abuse of the setting (e.g. in mentoring).
